Fernando Botero became famous for his paintings of obese people, in which deformation reaches not only people, but also animals and things. In them, he introduces a corrosive humour that splashes social hierarchies and institutions. His exaggerated forms and irreverent intentions are also combined in sculpture, to which he devoted himself almost exclusively in 1976 and 1977. Some critics believe that what his pieces have gained in refinement, they have lost in aggressiveness and run the risk of becoming an amusing genre style.
