Jorge Jiménez Casas

(Madrid, Spain, 1943)

Fundamentally self-taught, he was initiated in the anatomical and material aspects in the workshop of Juan de Ávalos, who shaped his definitive inclination towards sculpture. He has exhibited his work in Madrid and Santander. He has participated in the Biennial of Pontevedra, of Zaragoza (together with Ugarte), of Malaga (“Homage to Picasso”) and the National Biennial of Madrid.

«Jiménez Casas uses plastic blocks – dyed, burnt, mechanised – to express himself. It could be said that the artist has found an effective tool with which he has fallen in love. His art is original to the extent that it bears little resemblance to what he does. I think he is right when he moves away from the decorative and when the block begins to be sculpture, focusing on the expressive possibilities, that is when the art of this young man reaches its highest level».
