J. José González Hernández-Abad (José Abad)

(San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Spain, 1942)

Training: Pietro Vannucci Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia (Italy). Eduardo Gregorio’s workshop (Las Palmas), Martín Chirino’s workshop (Madrid). He has exhibited in the Canary Islands as well as in mainland Spain with considerable constancy. His work can be found in museums across the Canary Islands and in the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid and in various private collections all over the world.

«Abad’s work clearly situates you in the opening of a new society. His works have neither lacked the rebellious and social attitudes of youth – in his own youth, which is important for the prospective of his sculpture – nor the necessary serenity to give it a constructive physiognomy on a par with our times, using the materials of volume and space, the unitary character of the arts without forgetting the creation at any time, on which the freedom of art rests. And when I say the freedom of art, let it be understood that I mean the freedom of the person». (Eduardo Westerdahl)
