Mark Macken

(Diest, Belgium, 1913 – Amberes, Belgium, 1977)

He received his professional training (for wood inlay) in a workshop in Leuven, where he attended courses at the Leuven Academy. In 1930, he enrolled at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts and later at the Higher Institute.

He spendt part of the Second World War in captivity. In 1946 he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and in 1962 director at the Royal Academy and the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Member of the “Kunst van Heden” (Art of Today).

He participated in numerous exhibitions. Rome Prize for Sculpture 1938. Egide de Rambaux Prize 1955. He produced many monuments and building decorations.
