Juan E. Bordes Caballero

(Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, 1948)

Juan Bordes was born in 1948 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. From 1957 to 1960 he received sculpture classes from Abraham Cárdenas, specialising in modelling and casting.

In 1963 he moved to Madrid, where he combined his architectural studies with attendance at the School of Ceramics and free classes at the Círculo de Bellas Artes. After a few years as an architect, in 1974 he decided to devote himself exclusively to sculpture and painting.

In 1976 he began teaching at the School of Architecture of Madrid, received a scholarship from the March Foundation and was selected for the Alexandria Biennial.

In 1987 he obtained a scholarship from the Academy in Rome and since 1988 he has been a lecturer in the Department of Architectural Composition at the E.T.S.A. of Madrid.

His monumental sculpture projects include the bronze sculptural group in the minimal settlement of Vallecas, Madrid 1985; the reliefs on the façade of the Palau de la Música, Barcelona 1989; eight public fountains in commemoration of the Barcelona Olympics, 1992; Monument to Dr. Juan Negrín, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 1992; “El hombre Vitruviano”, Plaza de la Remonta, Madrid 1995, etc.
