“Arnaldo Pomodoro is another of the great sculptors, who has participated with a “Cilindro Construito”, bronze from 1966-70 of large dimensions. His training as a jeweler cannot be disregarded. In the torn belly of this tube, with coppery iridescence, the set of blocks of a constructive tendency is exposed, fighting against the defeated sheet metal, establishing an order and a balance and combining oppositions.”

“Italian abstractionist sculpture also had a fundamental cultivator in the Tenerife Exhibition with Arnaldo Pomodoro. His Cilindro Construido, a spectacular bronze column showing the inner structure of its ashlars (1968-70) in dramatic seismic commotion, was a vigorous and poetic presence of the artist from Romagna.”

“and Italian Arnaldo Pomodoro (b. 1926,) with his brother Gió, one of the most personal voices of Italian art, who knows how to be both classical and contemporary, with his explosive geometric forms, such as his Cilindro Construido (1970) exhibited or the Sfera con Sfera that today stands in the middle of the Pinecone Courtyard at the Vatican.“

“Unfortunately, the rest of the works belonging to private galleries had to be returned as their prices far exceeded the Exhibition budget. This was the case of Cilindro Construido (1970, bronze) in which its author, Arnaldo Pomodoro, showed in his usual manner the subtle contrast between the smooth surfaces and the apparently corroded ones.”
