Óscar Domínguez

(San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Spain, 1906 – París, France, 1957)

Essentially a Surrealist painter, his sculpture takes the form of his Surrealist objects, his removable sculptures and the playful sculptures of Hyères. As for the Surrealist objects, the imaginative factor which led him to distort the meaning of everyday objects is remarkable. The removable sculptures are interesting for their multiplicity, for the variability of their volumes, impregnated with the tragic sense of his nascent acromegaly. As for the sculptures made in Hyères, they tend towards a playful sense of art (F. Castro Borrego).
